Don Ray was born in Los Angeles California in 1938. He discovered his passion and talent for the arts while attending California’s public schools. He went on to New York’s Art Student League to receive advanced training and later apprenticed with sculptors Ken Kaiser and Jose DeGreff. With a growing interest in the art of Mali, he traveled in 1976 to Africa to study at the Museum of Bamako. In addition to sculptures, Don's artistic talents include paintings, mixed media and art furniture. Don’s studio is currently in Alancha, California with a second residence in Pasadena. His art is exhibited throughout the United States in private collections and commercial buildings. Some of the more well known exhibits are in Arizona in the Casa Grande Art Museum, Tacoma Washington’s commissioned works, Sam Maloof’s Alta Loma California Compound, and the Di Rosa Preserve in Napa, California to name a few.
